Abstract

In this issue, Wanda Martin, Kerry McPhedran, Shelley Kirychuk, and Lori Bradford, ESJ’s editor-in-chief, explores the concept of engaged scholarship within the realm of housing insecurity and the built environment. They shared their insights and experiences regarding the challenges and opportunities inherent in engaged scholarship, particularly in addressing inequities in housing and the built environment. 

Author Biographies

Lori Bradford, University of Saskatchewan

is an associate professor at the College of Engineering and is also a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair (CRC) in including Social and Cultural Sciences in Engineering Design. She is also the editor-in-chief of the Engaged Scholar Journal. Her current research areas are interdisciplinary social sciences, engaged scholarship, social and cultural impact assessment, water empathy and policy, and community-driven co-design. Shelly Kirychuk, University of Saskatchewan

is a professor at the College of Medicine and the director of the Canadian Centre for Rural and Agricultural Health. Her current clinical interest is epidemiology of rural and agricultural related exposures and respiratory health outcomes. 

Wanda Martin, University of Saskatchewan

is a Registered Nurse and an Associate Professor at the College of Nursing, University of Saskatchewan. She taught undergraduate nursing students community health nursing and nursing philosophy and research to graduate students. Wanda is a qualitative researcher interested in systems thinking and novel methodologies. Wanda works with community partners to improve health through community food security, quality housing, and environmental sustainability practices. 

Kerry McPhedran, University of Saskatchewan

is a professor at the College of Engineering focusing on civil, geological and environmental engineering. He is also a Saskatchewan Centennial Enhancement Chair in water stewardship for indigenous communities. Kerry›s current research areas are indigenous water and environment, municipal and environmental engineering, municipal wastewater, partitioning to organic matter, recreational water quality, and stormwater runoff.
